FOUNDER OF THE CHARITY SPIRIT OF PEACE AND FACILITATOR
In addition to valuing arts for their intrinsic qualities and the ways they contribute to my personal well-being, I see the arts as having an important part to play in society. In my roles as social worker, sociologist and founder of the charity, Spirit of Peace, I have seen how ‘Culture and the Arts’ are fundamental to human wellbeing both for individuals and communities, bringing healing, harmony, enjoyment and creating and sustaining connections.
I think of art not solely as special objects or forms, but as the creative process which generates music, artworks, food, environments, cultures and experiences - each of which can contribute to health and flourishing.
In 2015, I was pleased to develop a project "Music at the Intersection" together with partners in the Middle East, as part of Spirit of Peace’s ‘Culture and Arts” pathway. It brought together different communities in Israel and Palestine through concerts in Nazareth and Jerusalem. It is of significance to me that the name ‘Music at the Intersection’ was chosen at a cafe on one of the main dividing roads between East and West Jerusalem, stimulated by the starkness and pain of that divide.I look forward to continuing similar intercultural and interfaith work with a variety of Arts and the inspirational team which has come together through “Arts at the Intersection".
